Information on Benefits of Self-Pay

For clients whose insurance we do not accept, private-pay psychotherapy offers the benefits of discretion, flexibility, and depth of care. A key benefit of private-pay therapy is enhanced privacy and confidentiality. When insurance is involved, diagnoses and treatment information are shared with third parties (insurance companies). Private-pay therapy allows your work to remain confidential, creating a space where you can engage more openly and thoughtfully in the therapeutic process.

Private-pay therapy also allows for care without imposed labels. Insurance requires a mental health diagnosis to justify treatment, even when clients are seeking support for stress, burnout, life transitions, or personal development. Our approach allows therapy to focus on your lived experience, goals, and values—without unnecessary categorization. Insurance companies also impose time limits on therapy, which can impact the depth of the work.

Without insurance-driven constraints, treatment is highly individualized. Session structure, pacing, and therapeutic approach are guided by your needs rather than external requirements. This flexibility supports a more intentional, responsive, and collaborative process. Many clients also appreciate the ability to engage in deeper, long-term work. Rather than focusing solely on symptom reduction, private-pay therapy allows space for insight, self-understanding, and values-aligned change—supporting both personal and professional fulfillment.

Finally, private-pay therapy supports consistency and continuity of care. Treatment is not subject to authorization limits, audits, or coverage changes, allowing for a stable therapeutic relationship and sustained progress over time. For clients with out-of-network benefits, documentation can be provided for possible reimbursement.
